Here is a story about some tough cowgirls and cowboys. Tanner and Tatum started out looking like this, before they went to the rodeo and performed in the Mutton Busting competition. Cary and I went to the rodeo the day before, so we didn't get to actually watch them. (Thank you to April for the photos and video in this portion of the post.)

They look adorable, true, but there is toughness
and inner strength underneath. Believe me.
Mutton Busting:
What is it, exactly? A child puts on a helmet, gets on the back of a sheep and tries to stay on until the buzzer goes off. Some parents sign their kids up at the tender age of two, which I personally think is too young. Still, for kids who are old enough to know what they are getting into, and who want to do it, there is a chance of winning a trophy or ribbon. Here is the video clip of Tatum (aka Little Missy) riding her sheep. April is just learning how to take videos on her camera. [Due to technical difficulties, the video will be inserted at a later time. Sorry!] The video is a little choppy at the end, but that may also be because a worried mom is watching her 8-year-old being smashed against the fence, resulting in a bloody arm. Tatum held on for dear life, and ended up with a score of 80 ... and never shed a tear for her pain. Talk about a tough little cowgirl! Tatum placed and took home a ribbon. Way to go, Little Missy!
Tanner was a tough and brave young cowboy. As luck would have it, he didn't quite make it to the buzzer this year. Well, there is always next year to give it another try.
This little sweetie road her sheep the day we were there, but we missed seeing her perform. Her mom said that she really wanted to do it, but her older brother said, "No way!":

On Saturday there were two cowboys who were injured on the job.
#1 - This guy did fine on his ride, but I think he got kicked when he was getting off the horse. He was walking pretty slow after he got up. But, if you can walk away, I think you are doing well:

#2 - This cowboy was steer wrestling. He got the steer down to the ground, but then it got up and stomped his shoulder. He was in pain, writhing around on the ground, and took a few minutes to get up. I covered my eyes; I hate seeing stuff like that. When I opened them again, he was up and walking away, so I took his picture. To be a good reporter you have to still get the story, but not go overboard. I think.

Then guess what he did? He was partners with his brother, who was up next, and he didn't want to let him down. So he got on his horse and competed again immediately. This guy is really tough. After that, I'm sure that he let somebody take a good look at his shoulder.
